You have found a promising supplier in Turkey. The prices are good, the samples look right, and they want a deposit. Before you pay, you want someone to check them. But "supplier verification" can mean anything from a two-minute database lookup to a week-long factory audit.

This guide explains what a Turkish supplier verification service should check, which level you need for which order, and what the report should contain.

Why verify a Turkish supplier at all?Turkey is one of Europe's closest manufacturing bases: short lead times, EU customs union for industrial goods, strong textile, automotive, machinery and building-material sectors. Most Turkish suppliers are genuine. The problems buyers face are usually not fake companies, but:

* a trading company presenting itself as a factory,

* a real company name with a different bank account in the invoice,

* capacity claims that the company cannot meet without subcontracting,

* a recently changed owner or manager you are not told about.

All of these can be checked before you pay. Most cannot be checked from abroad without reading Turkish official records.

Level 1: Desk verification (documents and records)What it answers: Is this company real, registered, active, and is the bank account theirs?

A good desk check covers:

1. Legal identity. Full legal name, legal form (A.Ş. / Ltd. Şti. / sole trader), MERSIS number and tax number, all matching each other.

2. Registration history. Formation date, address changes, capital changes, liquidation notices from the Trade Registry Gazette.

3. Management and signatories. Who runs the company and who can sign contracts.

4. Tax status. Registered taxpayer, tax office, main activity code (manufacturer or trader?).

5. Bank account holder. Does the account holder name on the invoice IBAN match the legal name exactly?

6. Consistency. Website, proforma, email domain, address and phone all point to the same company.

Typical turnaround: 1–2 working days. This is enough for small first orders and new contacts from trade fairs or marketplaces.

Level 2: Deep review and remote capacity checkWhat it answers: Can this company actually produce my order?

On top of the desk check:

* review of the production address versus the registered address,

* evidence of production: activity code, machinery and equipment, photos and video verified against the location,

* a structured video call with the production site,

* red flags in the company's network: related companies, frequent name or address changes.

This fits larger orders, private label production, or when the supplier says "our own factory".

Level 3: On-site factory auditWhat it answers: What does the factory really look like on a production day?

An auditor visits the site and checks the facility, equipment, workflow, quality control, subcontractors and the people responsible, then documents everything with dated photos. This is the right level for high-value orders, long-term contracts and regulated products.

What a good verification report contains* A clear verdict at the top, not hidden on page six.

* Facts separated from claims: what was verified in official records versus what the supplier told us.

* Open questions you should ask before paying.

* An honest trust score with the reasons behind it.

* Plain English: no untranslated Turkish documents dumped in an appendix.

Questions to ask any verification provider1. Do you read Turkish official records yourself, or resell a database extract?

2. Do you check that the bank account holder matches the company?

3. Do you tell me if the supplier is a trader rather than a manufacturer?

4. Who exactly will visit the factory, and with what checklist?

5. Will the supplier know about the check? (Desk checks normally do not require contacting the supplier.)
